Invega Side Effects

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a black box warning about antipsychotics increasing the risk of death in elderly with dementia. It is also known as Paliperidone and Paliperidone ER.

Invega Drug Warnings:

There have been 14 drug regulatory agency warnings from three countries (Canada, United Kingdom and United States) on Invega (or paliperidone). These include the following (note that some warnings cite more than one side effect, so the list below may not be equal to the total number of warnings):

Adverse Reaction Reports Filed with the US FDA: There have been 4,790 adverse reactions reported to the US FDA in connection with Invega (paliperidone).

The FDA estimates that less than 1% of all serious events are ever reported to it, so the actual number of side effects occurring are most certainly higher.

  • 247 cases of weight increased
  • 227 cases of the drug being ineffective
  • 224 cases of galactorrhoea (excessive lactation)
  • 187 cases of blood prolactin (type of hormone) increased
  • 180 cases of psychotic disorder
  • 134 cases of extrapyramidal disorder (movement syndromes)
  • 125 cases of dizziness
  • 125 cases of insomnia
  • 121 cases of aggression
  • 120 cases of akathisia (motor restlessness)
