Geodon Side Effects

The risks of these drugs are provided so the public can make informed, educated decisions. Geodon is a newer antipsychotic drug. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a black box warning about antipsychotics increasing the risk of death in elderly with dementia. It is also known as Zeldox, Ziprasidone.

Geodon Drug Warnings:

There have been 10 drug regulatory agency warnings from three countries (United States, Canada and South Africa). These include the following (note that some warnings cite more than one side effect, so the list below may not be equal to the total number of warnings):

Geodon Drug Studies:

Adverse Reaction Reports Filed with the US FDA: There have been 6,692 adverse reactions reported to the US FDA in connection with Geodon (ziprasidone).

The FDA estimates that less than 1% of all serious events are ever reported to it, so the actual number of side effects occurring are most certainly higher.

  • 381 cases of tardive dyskinesia (involuntary muscle movements)
  • 356 cases of somnolence
  • 326 cases of tremors
  • 312 cases of anxiety
  • 308 cases of insomnia
  • 296 cases of the drug being ineffective
  • 280 cases of dystonia (repetitive muscle contractions)
  • 253 cases of weight increased
  • 242 cases of feeling abnormal
  • 229 cases of agitation
