In this week's police academy class training mental health deputies I included the 3 hour film "The Marketing of Madness." Thank you, CCHR, for your commitment to truth. My commitment has occasionally lost me professional status (in the social work profession), but ironically it has increased my credibility with the psychiatrists and police among whom I have worked over the last 40 years.
Sincerely,
LCSW Donald Castellano-Hoyt, Texas

My personal case is strong. Here is a brief: I started taking psychiatric medicine at the age of 19 years old. I was forced to it, by injection. Then, came the pills. After two years and two months, a blessed psychotherapist told me to immediately stop with all psych medication; all at a sudden. I know this is controversial, I am only reporting MY experience. So, that's what I did; I stopped taking all medicine at once and for ever. And from that moment onwards I was immediately starting to recover myself. I am 32 years old now, father of two wonderful kids, employed, health. To take psychiatric drugs is the worst curse one can have on its life. During the two years + two months I suffered with them, I will never forget on scene I had under effect of HALDOL... arriving at my home city with a friend, my father was waiting for me at the bus station... he and my friend had to support me, each one sustaining one arm - my father at one side, my friend at the other side - I simply COULD NOT WALK, and if I TRIED TO TALK my face would just "shrink", I COULD NOT TALK... but I remember the scene as it was today... I have in the memory the clear picture of the horrified eyes looking at me... of course, it seemed as I was a "distorted retarded" (don't know how to describe in English)...

I just to agree with other commenter that mentioned GOD as an important factor in the CURE.

At that moment I was an atheist, and I still was for a few years more. BUT, still being an atheist, don't ask me why, in the psychiatric hospital, somehow I was holding a PSALM text in my hands, and I read it in prayer, wholeheartedly. FROM THAT MOMENT ONWARDS, my deep downward spiral changed course, and the upward path began. Soon I was OUT the hospital, and soon I met the anti-drugs psychotherapist. Soon = the prayer happened at mid-August 1999, I was out the hospital and met the therapist at beginninf of September 1999.

Still took a few years (around 2001 or 2002) for me to have my dumb narrowed materialistic mind to be shaked enough so its heavy dust and stupidity got removed, and I was able to be aware of the most obvious thing, with is the omnipresence of God.

Anyway, I can understand exactly how an atheist sees the world and think about divinity, because for more than 20 years I was one myself.

I just saw the "Marketing of Madness" movie and I am really thankful and happy by seeing such a good and trustworthy production.

Sincerely,
JB

I agree the mental health system is broken. As in other specialized fields dedicated drs. in the behavioural health field are few & far between. Though, I think you need to be very careful in YOUR message. There are people who can't just turn their backs on medication. When our son first got sick. We tried behavioural therapy, herbs and vitamins. He alway had a great diet. It just wasn't cutting it. He continuted to suffer from sever Mania and Delusions which led to a complete psychotic break. Medication has saved his life. As his parent and advocate I am responsible for making sure he is not taken advantage of. That is to make sure he is not over medicated. That if he is suffering from side effects, we are not going to giving him something else on top of what he is taking to deal with the side effect. The other thing that I cannot over state is, no one should be taking medication without talk therapy. If you're dr. gives you a RX without requiring you see a therapist, you should walk out immediately. Therapy is an important part of continued care for the person. Alot of times people are able to go off there medications, once they work with their therapist. One thing I can tell people from experience is that you need to find your fit when it comes to a therapist. So don't give up if the first few don't seem to work out..
There are also some Organizations that have therapists that work on a sliding scale so if you don't have a steady income you can find one you can afford......

I am hoping to come off medications after 17 years - I am now morbidly obese, have diabetes type II, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. However, there is no support if you don't want to accept the drugs - and i only get disability payments because of cooperating with doctors who want to prescribe drugs.

I recently watched a video on this website an it has forever changed my life. In this video a boy who was younger than me was taking seroquel and slaughtered his families pets as a result of the extreme doses he was being prescribed. Additionally the video is centered around a woman who lost her son to suicide as a result of being prescribed lexapro. Not only was I prescribed both of the drugs by my psychiatrist, she never informed me of these possible side effects, but she prescribed me an additional medicine to supplement the other medications AFTER I TOLD HER THE LEXAPRO WAS MAKING FEEL FUNNY. I have since flushed all my medications down the toilet and my wife will also be doing the same.

Very low vitamin B-12 and/or very little vitamin B-12 in the body is directly linked and can cause depression and is definitely a medical fact. The problematic issue is the psychiatrists and family medical doctors often fail miserably to run the proper medical diagnostic blood lab test on their patients to determine if they are very low on B-12 reserve stores in the body. In turn, they are too quick to put a patient on antidepressants and other types of psychiatric drugs. Sadly, the antidepressants mask the vitamin B-12 deficiency as the result. The patient suffers more chronic illness as the result not only for not being aware if they are low in B-12 stores, but, then become "hooked" on antidepressants as the result of the ignorance from family doctors and the mental health industry.

I think what you are doing is very interesting and probably quite necessary.

However, I am quite certain that Wellbutrin saved my life.

I was suicidal every day for years - YEARS - following a major depressive episode.

Now, with Wellbutrin, I feel completely normal.

Therefore I think it's worth pointing out that psychiatric meds can sometimes be appropriate.

If anybody had to walk one day in ours shoes they would offer a hug or their prayers a helping hand or lend there ears or a shoulder to cry on, but thats not where the money is!!....So many people look to doctors phyc's for help when we or our loved ones are in need, but what fools we are to believe that they care about us as a people THEY DONT its a business for profit we the people need to do more to stop this its abuse...We promote drug free schools and we tell our children dont use drugs, but we allow these doctors to perscribe DRUGS to us, and our children what kind of sense does that make....I am also a christian woman, mother, and activist for my children and god knows this he knows everything...."vengance is mine says the lord"....So be prepared, and be ready. protect your self and your children from a broken system which was never designed with good intent...May god bless you all, and be for sure I remember everyone in my prayers, and I know god listens and answers prayers everyday all over the world!!!!
